HAY’ LE NTAKA!

Rise like an eagle and shine like a star

Welcome to St John’s College, Mthatha, Eastern Cape.

St John’s College was founded by the late Rev Bishop Henry Callaway of the Anglican Church and his clergy. The first sod was turned on 25th June 1879.

At that stage it was referred to as “St John’s Theological College”. The Theological College was later moved to St Bedes, leaving behind St John’s College operating as a Senior Secondary School.

The school logo has an Eagle holding a Bible, the Anglican Bishop’s hat, a mitre (red in colour) and the motto “lulo ke olu uloyiso”.

The slogan is: Hay’ le ntaka!, “Rise like an eagle and shine like a star”.
